Why Robusta

Why Robusta Deserves Your Respect

For years robusta was treated as arabica’s cheaper cousin. Grown with care and roasted with intent, it’s a bold, high-caffeine, low-acid cup we’re proud to put our name on.

  • ≈ 2× the caffeine of arabica
  • Bold & low-acid
  • Dak Lak grown

The short version

Robusta, by the numbers

No inflated claims — just the things about robusta that are actually true, and actually matter in the cup.

  • ≈ 2× the caffeine of arabica, cup for cup
  • World’s #1 Vietnam is the largest robusta producer on earth
  • ≈ 1,500 ft the lower, warmer elevation robusta thrives at
  • Low acid bold, chocolatey, and easy on the stomach
The caffeine

Roughly twice the kick

Cup for cup, robusta carries roughly twice the caffeine of arabica. That’s not a gimmick — it’s the plant. It’s why a small phin of robusta can carry you through a morning, and why Việt Nam built its coffee culture on strong, slow-dripped cups rather than big American mugs.

If you’re the kind of drinker who wants your coffee to actually work, robusta earns its place in the cupboard.

The cup

Bold, chocolatey, and low in acid

Well-grown robusta doesn’t taste like a compromise.

Where a bright arabica leans floral and fruity, robusta goes the other direction: deep dark chocolate, roasted nuts, and a woody, full-bodied heaviness that holds up to milk and ice. Its low acidity makes it gentler on the stomach and gives it that classic Vietnamese-coffee richness.

That’s exactly why robusta is the backbone of cà phê sữa đá — strong coffee poured over sweetened condensed milk. The bean is bold enough to cut through the sweetness instead of drowning in it.

Why Vietnam, why us

The world’s best robusta, grown the hard way

Việt Nam is the largest robusta producer in the world, and the Dak Lak highlands are its heartland. Robusta thrives there at lower, warmer elevations — around 1,500 feet — where it’s hardier and more forgiving than arabica.

Most robusta becomes anonymous filler for instant coffee. Ours doesn’t. Our Dak Lak robusta is hand-picked, ripe-only, and processed with the same care we give our specialty arabica — no blending across regions, no shortcuts. That’s the difference between robusta as a cost-saver and robusta as a coffee worth choosing.
